Welcome to my Horror Movie Page.
Am updating October 2011

I am a big movie fan, I've always said a good movie is a good movie regardless of genre or
age. Horror movies though, even the all time greats usually don't get recognized on an equal
level as most genres. How often do horror movies win academy awards? True there are a
good number of crappy horror films but there are crappy dramas and crappy comedy and so
on.

I have to say I prob watched more R films than a young pre teen mind should have. How
many twisted psychopathetic characters did I get to know? Why are psychotic killers such
likeable people. They shouldn't be main stars in a film who deserve sequal after sequal to kill.
Honestly what does that say for society? Hmmmm. Well Michael Myers, Leatherface, Jason
and a whack of others are strong silent types. Something drives them to kill and they do it.
Talk about going with your instincts. They come across as intelligent despite their silence.
They aren't fast or flashy. There is no hurry to them, almost zen like they exist to kill and as
long as they exist they will kill. Often the silent ones are a little slow or have endured
psychological stress which have caused them to snap.

Then there are the Freddy's, the Angela Baker's, the Exorcist demon possessions who are
smart mouthed and yappy. The Bugs Bunny slashers who kill with sarcasm and witty
remarks. They sometimes have reason for their turn to evil but usually are just evil or psychotic.

Anyways a good horror movie needs to scare you mentally. All the blood guts and gore will only make
you laugh if it isn't backed up with with something that if thought about in the dark late at night
raises the hairs on your neck. So here is my list of "the scaries" including the good bad and the ugly. Enjoy!

This is a funny clip i found while doing my Horror page.

28 Days Later (2000)

A man wakes up from a coma to find he's in a world of zombies or the infected as they're called. He meets some other survivors, some die and some live. This was a decent flick.

28 Weeks Later (2007)

We meet the two main characters during the initial outbreak, a man has to leave his wife to die in order to save his own. Go ahead 28 weeks and the gov't has the infection under control and people are beginning to move back into Great Britain. Some dumb kids... one played by the hauntingly beautiful but wierdly named Imogen Poots, that's her real name :S decide to go visit their old home in a quarantined area of the city. It's across a bridge or something. They find their mother their but she's seemingly not infected.... but acting strange. The kids run out and are saved by a helicopter of soldiers who did monitor them leaving the secure area. Seems mommy has an immunity to the disease but she does carry it and can spread it. Thanks to daddy going into the secured room to see his wife he contracts it and guess what.... we quickly have an outbreak. Overall a good continuation and a stronger sequal. There is another i understand... either 28 months later or 28 years.... not sure.

30 Days of Night (2007)

Vampires don't like sunlight so a group of them go to Alaska to a remote town where the sun is going to set for 30 days. The vampires will be able to hunt their victims without fear of the sun and the prey has no where to go. There are so many great elements at work here and yet it doesn't satisfy in the end.

1408(2007)

A Stephen King story.... I think he has a machine which just spits them out. But its a haunted room story, done quite well, nothing too original. Decent acting and effects, ok story, has a nice ending. B

American Psyco(2000)

I guess its a horror, psycho 80's wallstreet business yuppy kills because life has no meaning? Sure that works. Been a while since i've seen this, have seen a couple times, do like it. Christian Bale in the first role i remember him in does a great job in the role and the story I think is very good with great directing. Who directed, i dunno :P The movie works on many levels. A

Alien (1979)

Sci-Fi Horror, a dark, gritty, realistic thriller. Spawned many imitators and its own sequels. Haven't seen it in a while and need to re-watch it again.

The Amityville Horror (1979)

Based on the book based on true events. Kinda creepy, kinda interesting, Margot Kidder is great to watch. All the sequels that I've seen are terrible, the 2005 remake is decent enough but the best in the Amityville series is the original film.

AntiChrist

Arthouse-horror film from Europe. Couple are having sex, their young child falls to his death while this is happening. The wife goes a little nuts, husband takes her to a remte cabin for some therapy, finds she may have been a little nuts before hand. The husband however sees a few strange things, hallucinations maybe and so is he all there himself? Dark, twisted, beautifully crafted. A nice mix of madness and genius.

April Fools Day (1986)

It has been a long time since I've seen this. It has a bit of a unique spin on the slasher genre... a good introductory horror film maybe for younger viewers.

The Asphyx (1972)
It has been more than a decade since I've seen this British film from the early 70's. A photographer discovers in his pictures an entity which appears at the time of death and decides it is death. He tries to capture this enitity and so stop death but is he ad and what will the cost be?

The Astronaut's Wife (1999)

Expected so much more from this... in the end it felt slow and flat.

Bad Taste (1987)

The first film from Peter Jackson is something different. A low budget comedy/horror which shows a lot of creativity and dedication. I can't say this is great but it is good.

Beyond Re-animator (2003)

This franchise has remained very solid over three films and I think that is thanks to the director Brian Yuzna and star actor Jeffrey Combs. Part three ddidn't get a theatrical release but deserved it. A great third installment 13 years after the second. Poor old Herbert West.

Black Christas (1974)

Finally watched the Canadian classic horror Black Christmas. The first holiday themed horror film, the birth of the modern slasher film according to a lot of writing. A little slow and dated but s decent flick and a decent ending which makes me wonder why there was never a sequel, a decent old time slasher flick.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

LOL people joke about just how bad this is now. I saw this in theater, I was aware of the hype and all the PR stuff around the film. I haven't seen it on video since so I can't speak for how it work on a tv. I think the movie would be better at home late at night. It's different, it's interesting as it's more "reality" than any so called reality tv. And yes i remember it as actually having a decent ending and being a little creepy. Sure it's all a big joke now but I thought it was OK.

Braindead (1992)

I think Peter Jackson's third film and it's another horror/comedy with plenty of gore. Better all around than the previous efforts but who'd have thought he'd go on to what he did?

The Brain that Wouldn't Die (1962)

A low budget B movie from the 60's which is so much better than most. Quite creepy and well done, worth a watch.

Bride of Chucky (1998)

The original Child's Play film was great and quickly followed by two lousy sequels which did one thing and that was supply mor of Chucky, just not a good story or anything else. Well they decided to eliminate the name Child's Play and add comedy. I did not watch Bride of or Seed of Chucky for quite a while because I didn't expect much, I was wrong. This movie has a good story, good humour and the horror killings. Seed of Chucky was an even more interesting twist on things.

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Critically hailed as one of the greatest horror films ever made this is a fine piece of cinema and also horror. It has a bit of camp to it with Dr. Pretorius who is out of place in the world of Frankenstein and yet right at home all the same. The monster talks and is more like the books version of him. This film is great and even touching at times, we feel for the monster... Is it better than the original, maybe slightly but only in it is a little more creative and audacious, showing the contol Whales had over the production which was a little unusual at the time.

Bride of Re-animator (1990)

A great sequel to the original, dark comedy horror and well done.

Bubba Ho-Tep (2002)

This movie is amazing, funny as hell, very poignant and touching at times and also a horror of types. A historical what-if conspiracy type thing which has Elvis and JFK living in a Texas Old Folks home and having to fight an Egyptian mumy. Sounds odd, well it is but also an amzing film. Great story, acting and directing worth a watch or two. I am a fan of Elvis, Bruce Campbell, and zombies so I'd like this if it were bad, luckily it isn't, it Takes Care of Business, the King would be proud. There is an audio comentary of Bruce Campbell doing Elvis and watching the movie which is worth watching as well, of course if you're a fan.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

Silent German masterpiece which still is a high point in creepy. Gets better with each viewing over the years.

Candyman (1992)

Wow, this is old. I guess it has to be since I haven't seen it in a long time. So I can't say much about it... have to view it again I guess and rate it at another time.

Carnival of Souls (aka Corridors of Evil) (1962)

Not sure where I saw this to begin with. But it made an impact. It's somewhat dreamy and ghostlike and overall a cult classic. Something I wanna add to my collection.+

Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore) (1994)

Such a unique and entertaining film that has a twisted ending which just is weird... watch it.

Child's Play(1988)

Oh this was a gooder. A cult killer puts his evil soul into a child's doll... a good guy doll and torments a kid and tries to take over his body. This movie brought us Chuckie and he's had several sequals, the last couple I haven't yet seen though they have good reviews. Been a long time since i've seen this but can remember most of it very clearly in my head. Really this just rocked!!! A-

The Company of Wolves (1984)
Do you like Little Red Riding Hood or wolf stories in general? This is for you, a dream-like film centered around Little Red and wolves.

Creepshow (1982)
An oldie but a goodie and gets a few nastalgia points as well. A nice collection of short story/films done together like a comic or Tales from the Crypt.

Creepshow 2 (1987)
Not quite as good as the first onein a few ways but still worth watching. Only has three stories, Old Chief Wooden Head, The Raft, and The Hitchhiker. Many people consider Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990) as being the third Creepshow film because it has stories by King and Romero who did the first two films and is constructed in a similar style.

Creepshow 3 (2007)
Some company aquired the rights to the name and so did a cheap horror film to make a few bucks. It hasn't got anything by King or Romero in it but still isn't bad. Five stories which are bizarre and twisted and I say worth a watch but don't expect a lot.

The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Hammer's first colour horror film which had great success, led to many sequels as well as the studio's numerous other horror entries. From what I've seen there are several good ones and some not so good ones in the bunch but I still have severl to watch. This film though is great and for kicking off Hammer Horror it gets a few points as well.

Darkness Falls (2003)
An OK film, nothing great.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Romero's second zombie film and another classic. Night of the Living Dead was groundbreaking, a dark and grisly film which makes an impact. It has plenty of social commentary and intelligence behind the violent horror. Unlike the first film which is black and white this time everything is colour and George has a bigger canvas and more paint to work with, blood and gore abound as does social commentary. A great film.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)
This updated remake kept most things the same more or less and added gore and action. Overall a worthy remake.

Deadgirl (2008)
Necrophilia, it's wrong, very wrong... so wouldn't sex with a zombie also be wrong? I would think so and this movie shows no good can come of it either. Dark, twisted and a well done film although obviously not for everyone.

Dead Snow (2009)
This Norwegian horror film has lousy acting, story and execution. However it has Nazi Zombies and they're very well done and interesting critters. Nice examples of the undead zobie guarding something.

The Devil's Rejects (2005)
So much better than House of 1000 Corpses...

Diary of the Dead (2007)
I recall this being ok, interesting at times but not as good as the other "DEAD" films by Romero. If I feel different later i will give it a better score but now it gets a 3.

Dracula (1992)
I need to watch this again but didn't care for it last I saw it.

The Evil Dead (1981)

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987)

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

A movie that genuinely was creepy, so I thought. I researched the actual case and saw several pics and heard several recordings of the poor girl this film is based on. It looks like she was beaten and starved to death and as for the recordings ... I don't think it was possesion. Still this movie I found disturbing... as I'm quite sure madness is.

The Exorcist (1973)

I do like this movie, it is great for all the reason's people say, some say it's the best of all time or at least up there as horror movies go. But I just bought it and tried to watch it.... I have to say long and mostly boring... Sure the scenes of the possessed Linda Blair are great and the overall story of good vs evil is good. Just kind long and boring. Also it was nominated for 10 Oscars including best picture but only won for sound and screenplay. B+
**Note I just read " if adjusted for inflation, this would be the top-grossing R-rated film of all time."

Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

Garbage, I remember disliking this quite a lot. Like so many other films though it has been a while since I've seen it.

Exorcist III

I haven't seen this in a long time but its far better than the second. It wasn't supposed to be an Exorcist movie but the studio forced it and it's a decent film, a very good one in fact that I need to watch again because I'm not sure how good it was.

Have seen this a few times but not in a long while. I recall liking it and also finding it creepy. It was directed by Michael Schumacher who is an incompetant idiot but has a couple half decent films to his credit. But he's an idiot.

Final Destination (2000) + the second one.
The first film was different and interesting and rather good, I then recall finding the second even a little better. After that though I haven't had a destination with this franchise again.

Frailty (2001)

Sort of a surprise when I first saw it as I didn't know anything about it and thought it was brilliant. Have watched it since and still think its a great film.

This film could have been so, so much better but was edited so much after filming that it ends up being ok.

Freddy vs Jason (2003)

Friday the 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th part 2 (1981)

Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)

Upon first viewing I liked a lot of this remake and some things I didn't. Having have time to reflect I have given this a better score.

Fright Night (1985)

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Halloween (1978)

Hellraiser (1987)

The Hills Have Eyes (2006 remake)

Hostel (2005)

House (1977)
If you want something unlike anything you've probably seen then try House. This film is strange had me kinda shaking my head. Is worth a watch aybe because it is different.

House of Wax (2005 remake)

House on Haunted Hill (1959)

The Howling (1981) + sequals

The Jacket (2005)
Had lousy reviews but I liked it, good story, acting and... well creppy as well. Sure it's been done before but this is it's own thing and I've seen it twice and didn't know that was Kira Knightley in it.

I Am Legend (2007)
Watch the film Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price for a superior film based on the book I am Legend.

In the Mouth of madness (1995)

Interview With the Vampire (1994)

IT (1990)

The Last Man on Earth (1964)
Cheap and low budget film but still manages to evoke creepiness and a sense of isolation. I much prefer this to the Will Smith I am Legend film. Both movies are based n the book I am Legend. Will Smith did a great acting job but the rest of the film didn't feel right and the ending stunk. The book and this film helped inspire Night of the Living Dead.

Leprechaun (1993)
I never intended to watch this movie but it was suggested to me and it does have Jennifer Aniston in it in her first big role. So a demonic leprechaun killing people and Jen, it should be good but I just didn't find it that good. Jen's acting hasn't changed at all since this first role, she's consistant.

MISERY (1990)

One of the better Stephen King movies, atospheric and great acting!

The Mummy (1932)

Again a classic.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge(1985)

Nosferatu (1922, Directed by F.W. Murnau)

The Number 23 (2007)

The Omen (1976)

The Others

Pet Cemetary (1989)
Another lessn that it is best to leave dead things dead. Kinda common sense wouldn't you say?

The Plague (2006)
The reviews aren't good on this one but I quite like it from start to end.

Poltergeist (1982)

Psycho (1960)

*need to watch again

*need to watch again

A solid and interesting final made for TV Psycho.

Ravenous (1999)

Re-Animator (1985)
I have been a long time fan of Re-Animator based on an HP Lovecraft story. Solid and darkly entertaining, great effects and acting and story. A solid movie with two solid sequels.

*need to watch again...

Resident Evil + Sequels (2002)+
I have only played Resident Evil 2 for the PSX and it was amazing, surprised I never played any others. So I am a fan of the movies but the movies have never been as creepy or atmospheric as Resident Evil 2 the game was.

Just watched this... way better than expected. Decent story, kinda funny, gratuitous nudity, good effects and decent acting.

This is the creepiest film I think I've seen in theater. It was fabulous how nightmarish I recall this film being, haven't seen it since the theatre so it's about time time to watch it again, and I just bought it.

Rosemary's Baby (1968)
A fantastic film, so far I think it is my favourite Polanski work. I need to view it again though as it's been a while since I last saw it.

Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom, commonly referred to as Salo, is a controversial
1975 Italian drama film written and directed by Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini
with uncredited writing contributions by Pupi Avati. It is based on the book The 120
Days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade. Because of its scenes depicting intensely
graphic violence, sadism, and sexual depravity, the movie was extremely controversial
upon its release, and remains banned in several countries to this day. It was
Pasolini's last film; he was murdered shortly before Salo was released.

It's an intense film based on the writing of a man who got pleasure from the
humiliation and torture of others, often non-consentual. This has been updated from the
unfinished book's time period and local, the depravity and violence toned down but keeps the general idea intact.

Saw (2004)

Scream (1996)

Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
From Wikipedia "Shadow of the Vampire is a 2000 horror film directed by E. Elias Merhige and written by Steven Katz, and starring John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, and Udo Kier. The film is a fictionalized account of the making of the classic vampire film Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens, directed by F. W. Murnau, in which the film crew begin to have disturbing suspicions about their lead actor."
So it helps to be a little familiar with the original silent film Nosferatu and of silent fils in general. This is an arthouse horror film, wonderfully made and crafted. Nicholas Cage's produced the film and in my opinion is one of the finest things which bears his name, and he isn't in the film.

Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Starts of great as a horror/coedy and then loses much of the humour and becoes quite standard by the end.

The Shining (1980)
Make a book by Stephen King into a film directed by Stanley Kubrick and staring Jack Nicholson. End result is a classic horror/thriller for the ages. I understand it is quite different from the book and there is a more faithful tv mini series adaptation. Bah, Kubrick knew what he was doing. This fil did scare me when I was 13 or so watching it alone in the winter at 2 am. Over the years it is something to sit back and savour like a nice wine.

Shutter (2008)
Not very good, I understand the original is better.

Silver Bullet (1985)
An ok werewolf movie from Stephen King although it is quite different from the book, made slightly comical and more kid friendly as a film I understand.

Sleepaway Camp (1983)
A sort of low budget cult classic early slasher pic with a fairly memorable twist ending.

Sleepaway Camp 2 Unhappy Campers(1988)
Bruce Springsteen's younger sister Pamela stars in this somewhat comedic spoof horror sequel. Still it has plenty of killing, plenty of topless camp consellors, and that slasher genre parody quality to it. The movie also has Renee Estevez in it, sister to Emileo Estevez and Charlie Sheen. It isn't a four star film but in this seperate Horror category it is getting 4 stars.

Sleepaway Camp 3 Teenage Wasteland(1989)
Pretty much a clone of number two as I recall, just a little more confident maybe? Well there's the self referential humour, the violence and topless gals. It's again not a 4 out of 5 star film but it is as a horror film.

A great film, a little tame though with violence and blood and no sex I can recall.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber from Fleet Street(2007)
A musical but still delivered. Like Sleepy Hollow by Burton and with Depp it needed to be a little more bawdy and bold.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. (1994)

Valentine (2001)
Not worth seeing if you were paid $10. Just bad all around.

The Wicker Man (1973)
I read the book, then saw the Nicholas Cage piece of crap and then saw the original classic. Mind you the original I saw wasn't the full version. This movie was much better than the new remake but still not as good as the book. Maybe the full version captures it better. Still this is a very good movie, especially after seeing the new one. But still don't see the new one, it sucks. It will probably make you laugh though. Grade B-
The Wicker Man (2006)

Crap, kinda funny actually in places its so bad. Watch the original or read the novel.

A long time since I've seen this, I recall liking it but that was a long time ago. There just aren't too many Ouija board movies out there to chose from so it was memorable. It did have a sequel which I probably also saw but can't recall as well as the original.
